In 2014 Lafarge and Holcim announced a merger project that was finalized in 2015 and qualified as a “merger between equals” combining 180 years of experience to create the industry leader in building materials and solutions. With a combined market value exceeding $50 billion, the merger was the second largest announced worldwide in 2014.

Unfortunately, financial and regulatory issues as well as post-merger challenges undermined the integration process and Lafarge slowly lost its footing in a company that became less and less Lafarge and more and more Holcim.
